Dirt Cheap

Well, well, well…. Y’all had my DM’S popping last night behind my little shopping trip. Yesterday I gave you a little glimpse of one of my favorite stores, Dirt Cheap. Yes, that is the name of it. If you are from NOLA and remembers the store Hudsons it’s basically the same thing. Dirt Cheap is a salvage store. Meaning if a store goes out of business, catches fire or has water damage what’s salvaged goes there. Most of the items are severely discounted. Sometimes 90% off. Depending on what it is. This place is a gem that for a while, I was keeping to myself, but today is Sunday, the lords day, so you’re welcome. lol!. Since I had over 30 DM’’s about where I was/ what is sold in store I thought I would put everything in one nice blog post for y’all. So let's get to it.

Like I said earlier, Dirt Cheap is a salvage store you can find them all over the south. I want you to understand that things are a little unorganized in there. Some stuff has been opened, cans are dented and it can be down right messy. Get your mind right. You have to have patience going in. If you don’t, this is NOT the place for you. But if you do and you have no problem with rummaging around boxes you can find some really good stuff. I’ve seen a lot of stuff from Target, Macys, Old Navy and even Sephora to name a few. Since i’ve been shopping at Dirt Cheap it’s now really hard for me to go into a Target and pay full price for something because at some point it might end up at Dirt Cheap for 60% off. I’m spoiled.

When you take a trip to Dirt Cheap I want you to keep these tips in mind:

  1. Leave your kids at home. Especially now. It’s not the tidest place. They will want to touch everything especially all the toys. Yes, they sell toys. Unfortunately a lot of the toys that I’ve seen have been opened up and pieces are missing or broken. BUT again, if you have that patience you might luck up on some that’s in perfect condition.

  2. Dress comfortable and please wear comfortable shoes.

  3. Eat heavy before you go or pack a snack for the road. You can be in this store for HOURS if you are like myself so you need fuel.

  4. Bring Wipes, hand sanitizer and please don’t forget your mask. I don’t really need to explain why. Do I?

  5. Since the Pandemic, the restrooms have been closed in a lot or all of the stores. Yet another reason to leave the kids at home.

  6. Download the Dirt Cheap Deal Finder app. This app will allow you to scan your item to see how much it is with the discount. Otherwise, you have to rely on the paper discount coded located on the isles. Which isn’t a problem until you find an item placed on the wrong isle and the codes don’t match.

  7. Take advantage of the “try” station. It’s not really called that but there is a place located in the back of some of the stores where you can see if the electronics work. All you have to do is go and plug your item in and pray it comes on. One time I found a pressure cooker for 20 bucks. I brought it back there, plugged it up and it came on! She’s still rocking with me.

  8. Dirt Cheap is a great place for seasonal decorations. Yesterday there was a good bit of Halloween decorations and even some Christmas gift bags. The closer to the Holliday the higher the discount. But you take a big chance of it being picked over. All of my wrapping paper and gift bags comes from there. I’ve found bags for .25cents

  9. Don’t go there in a little car. lol I’m speaking from experience. I’ve gone in there and walk out with furniture (yesterday) you know how mad I would have been If I had a little car and my 35 dollar rug couldn’t fit!

I think I’ve covered everything. Look, you might go and find nothing. You might go and find everything. When things are discounted between 40 and 90% off, It’s honestly worth a visit. Make sure to let me know if you go. I would' love to know what you find!

Last thing. When I go, I always look for:

  • Pajamas (most of them are from target)

  • Homegoods. I have a ton of mugs because who can pass up a 1 dollar cute mug

  • Journals

  • Holiday items/Decorations. Christmas time you can find big faux trees CHEAP

  • Furniture if it’s a good discount. Yesterday I was in line checking out and all of a sudden I hear. All furniture is now 70% off. I got out of the line and grabbed that white desk I posted in my stories.

Ok, I’m done! Now get dressed, find a Dirt Cheap close to you and go!
